Paris Saint-Germain’s 2000/01 season was one of frustration and inconsistency, as the club continued to search for stability in the post–Canal+ golden era.
Under coach Philippe Bergeroo, and later Luis Fernández (who returned mid-season), PSG had a talented squad featuring Nicolas Anelka, Laurent Robert, Jay-Jay Okocha, Frédéric Déhu, and Peter Luccin, yet results rarely matched expectations.
In Division 1, PSG finished 9th, well below their ambitions for European qualification. They enjoyed some success in the Coupe de la Ligue, reaching the final but losing 2–1 to Lyon.
In Europe, they participated in the UEFA Cup, exiting in the third round.
The 2000/01 campaign summed up PSG’s early-2000s identity: talented but turbulent — flashes of brilliance overshadowed by inconsistency and off-field distractions.
