Paris Saint-Germain’s 1998/99 season was a turbulent one marked by inconsistency and managerial upheaval, despite a squad filled with big names and high expectations.
Under Alain Giresse (and later Artur Jorge, who replaced him mid-season), PSG struggled to find rhythm in Division 1, finishing a disappointing 9th, far from the title race. The team included stars such as Jay-Jay Okocha, Marco Simone, Raí, Mauricio Pochettino, and Ali Benarbia, but defensive instability and dressing-room tensions undermined performances.
In cup competitions, PSG reached the Coupe de la Ligue final, losing 1–0 to Lens, and were eliminated early from the UEFA Cup.
The 1998/99 campaign symbolized the end of PSG’s mid-’90s golden era — a season of transition before a lengthy rebuilding phase in the 2000s.
