Bolivia’s 1995 season was one of rebuilding and regional competition following their historic 1994 World Cup appearance.
Under coach Antonio López Habas, who succeeded Xabier Azkargorta, Bolivia aimed to build on their momentum with a new generation blending World Cup veterans like Marco Etcheverry, Erwin “Platini” Sánchez, and Carlos Trucco with emerging talents.
Their main competition that year was the Copa América 1995 in Uruguay, where Bolivia were drawn in a tough group with Uruguay, Paraguay, and the USA. They struggled to replicate their 1994 form, earning just one point (a draw with Paraguay) and finishing bottom of the group, exiting in the first round.
Though disappointing, 1995 served as a transitional year that kept Bolivia competitive regionally ahead of their resurgence as 1997 Copa América finalists.
