Boca Juniors Home Shirt 1981

Boca Juniors’ 1981 season is one of the most iconic in the club’s history — the year Diego Maradona arrived and led them to glory.

Under manager Silvio Marzolini, Boca signed Maradona from Argentinos Juniors for a then-record fee. His partnership with Miguel Brindisi, Hugo Perotti, and Óscar Ruggeri transformed the team’s attacking play.

Boca won the 1981 Metropolitano Championship, finishing top of their group and then defeating Ferro Carril Oeste 4–2 on aggregate in the final. Maradona was sensational throughout, scoring decisive goals and dazzling with his skill and leadership.

The Nacional Championship later that year was less successful, but the Metropolitano title cemented 1981 as a legendary season in Boca Juniors history — the “Maradona year.”
