Ajax’s 1995/96 season was another outstanding campaign, continuing their dominance in both Dutch and European football under Louis van Gaal.
Fresh from their 1995 Champions League triumph, Ajax remained among the best teams in the world. They won the Eredivisie once again, finishing top with just one league defeat all season, powered by stars like Jari Litmanen, Patrick Kluivert, Edgar Davids, Frank de Boer, Danny Blind, and Edwin van der Sar.
In Europe, Ajax reached the UEFA Champions League final for the second consecutive year, defeating Real Madrid and Panathinaikos en route. In the final, they lost 4–2 on penalties to Juventus after a 1–1 draw in normal time.
Ajax also won the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, defeating Grêmio on penalties.
The 1995/96 season cemented Ajax’s mid-’90s dynasty — tactically brilliant, youth-driven, and feared across Europe.
